The John Haymes Newton Biography

With his muscular physique and dark good looks, John Haymes Newton seemed perfectly cast in the dual role of the teenage Clark Kent and his alter ego "Superboy" in the 1988 syndicated series. But after one season, he was replaced by another actor and instead began to carve out a career on stage and screen. The native North Carolinian headed to Manhattan at age 19 to study acting and soon found himself headlining a TV series. After leaving "Superboy", John Haymes Newton garnered praise for his leading role in a 1990 production of "Out Town" at the Pittsburgh Public Theatre. John Haymes Newton's film career did not begin particularly auspiciously, playing a romantic rival to rapper Vanilla Ice, both vying for the affections of Kristin Minter, in "Cool as Ice" (1991) and graduated to leading roles with "Desert Kickboxer/Desert Hawk" (1992), playing a half-breed cop fighting drug dealers in Arizona. The role required the actor do little more than pose and look good while executing low-level martial arts stunts. "Alive" (1993) gave John Haymes Newton more to do as one of the survivors of a plane crash in the Andes.

Returning to the small screen, John Haymes Newton cut a handsome figure as the driver for Eliot Ness in the syndicated series remake of "The Untouchables" (1993-94). He seemed to find his niche when cast as a mysterious stranger who comes to the aid of Cassidy Rae in the Fox primetime soap "Models, Inc." (1994-95). Building on that performance, John Haymes Newton joined the cast of another of the network's serials, "Melrose Place", in 1998, portraying Ryan McBride, an executive who also happened to be the younger brother of restaurateur Kyle McBride (played by Rob Estes).

John Haymes Newton Movie. THE CHRISTMAS CARD

Hi Everyone,
I"m writing this in hopes their are more people like myself that enjoy a great Christmas movie, One ,that the whole family can sit down with some hot buttered popcorn and not have to worry about the contents of the movie. I'm a person that appreciates a good family story. It covers a little of what"s going on in our world and portrays a close, loving, family. The main theme of this made for T .V .movie is the love story that ensues between Cody (John Newton) and Faith (Alice Evans) Their story begins when he receives a Christmas Card from a tenderhearted, loving woman,  while he' s serving in the war in Afghanistan, He finds the card keeps him going after the loss of a good friend in a bomb attack. He's ordered to take leave and find out what life is like after serving several tours of duty in the army. When on leave, he visits the home of his friend that was killed, than goes on seeing the picturesque town of Nevada City Calif. While riding his motorcycle threw town, he stops at he  local diner, their he meets Faith Spelman (Alice Evans) for the first time. He wants to attend church the next morning which happens to be the church that the Spelman family attends, The usher turns out to be none other than  Luke Spelman (Ed Asner) He takes a liking to Cody (John Newton)  After the service, Luke calls out to Cody just as he's about to drive away on his bike. A car comes racing up the hill headed for Luke, Cody jumps in and saves his life. A greatful Luke, invites him to come home and have dinner with the family. After dinner and a game of touch football, Luke asks Cody where he's going after he leaves, Cody says, "I don't really know" Luke asks Cody to stay and work at the mill that he owns and Cody agrees to stay. The story goes on with Luke planning to make Cody a part of the family. He says it's just for the Christmas Holidays. Of course this a chance for Cody (John Newton) to get to know Faith (Alice Evans) Another person enters the picture, her long time boyfriend Paul, an international wine broker that is mostly international than home with his girl Faith. Paul, (Ben Weber) is not well liked by Luke. Faith's loving mother.,Rosie Spelman  is played by (Lois Nettleton).and Faith's very nice and fun loving,  Uncle Richard is played by (Peter Jason). Paul is home from his travels and becomes aware of the attraction between Faith and Cody. He asks  her to marry him and "she says yes," when Cody finds out about the engagement, he decides that the right thing to do is to leave against the prompting of Luke for him to stay and tell Faith that he loves her. Can't tell you what happens but, if  you like a good Christmas movie as I do, you will be a fan as I am. I haven't mentioned that  I am also a very big fan of John Newton's  Get this movie, get the family together, and make some popcorn while you enjoy a great movie that will warm your hearts. P.S. It doesn't have to be Christmas to enjoy this one. This was Hallmark"s highest rated film as told by Ed Asner in his interview.

I LOVE THE CHRISTMAS CARD!!! I watch this movie a few times every year. John, if you periodically read our comments I want you to know that your role in this film inspired me to get involved in sending packages to soldiers in Afghanistan. Getting involved was great for our family. I also come from NC (Hickory). This is a timeless movie that has made a lasting impact on so many people. My granddaughter's first pic with Santa was taken at the church in Nevada City. Thank you!

"Christmas Card" is now my most favorite Xmas movie, ever. It was fantastically casted and the music and scenery were fabulous!! John Newton and Alice Evans were wonderful. I bought the DVD and watch it many times. I also watch the Hallmark Channel movie where it is on several times during the Xmas season. It is really heartwarming at the end. FANTASTIC ENDING!!!! Anyone would love to be in such a wonderful family as the Spelmans.
Too bad they couldn't do a follow-up to the movie. How about a Christmas wedding?

Made in 2006, and this is still my favorite Hallmark movie! Except for White Christmas, maybe my favorite altogether. Ed Asner and John Newton make this movie believable in such a warm but realistic way. YES, a sequel would be marvelous--it would definitely save me from pressing the replay button, yet again, but what the heck, it's 8 years and counting, and the replay button works just fine. Thanks to this wonderful cast for "taking us" to a happy, joyful and PEACEFUL place--with sweet romance thrown in. Thumbs up to, Christmas Card!

John Newton: This year 2015 brought me to Hallmark and there I saw The Christmas Card. Your thoughtful, sensative, loving portrayal of Cody Cullen is the best I have ever seen. Your are a rich talent and I hope you will return to Hallmark for another great performance , your fans miss you. But today Dec. 29...I wish you the happiest of birthdays ever.

Is there any chance that a sequel to the Christmas Card movie will ever be thought of we all want to know how the life with Faith and Cody could turn out.

Is Hallmark going to make another Christmas Movie to add the Christmas Card so we can see what happened to you and faith after you won her over,I would love to see a movie that follows that one same people and place,I loved it so much I got it on DVD.

I absolutely love this movie I only wish they would make a sequel to it where Cody and Faith continue the family business and start a family of their own. Keep wishing...

I loved the Christmas Card!! I also wish there would be a sequel - just to see how Cody and Faith continue the business and start a family of their own. All the original characters would be great to see in this sequel Thanks, John and Alice for a great entertaining movie.

I love the movie. My parents watch it every time it is on. I think it is funny how the uncle seems to say quite a few of his lines too early. He responds before the other actor says their line. Hysterical, how they just left it that way.

The movie, The Christmas Card is my all time favorite Hallmark movie due to all of the actors, yet mostly, John Newton. The main reason is due to the content of the story and the ending, which touches me every time I watch it. Even though I have the DVD, I make sure I watch the movie when on TV so Hallmark can continue to play it for years to come and touch the hearts of soldiers and Veterans of this country and the love of family.

Please make a sequel that will continue to inspire the love for Cody & Faith. Nevertheless, the love for family and the Veterans respect for this country.

Warm regards.

True loves stories have become a lost art.The castiing of John Newton and Alice Evans was perfection.A sequel would be wonderful and encourage families from the Afganisstan war.I hope. Hallmark gets our message.

It is amazing to read all the comments. I thought I was the only one nutty enough to watch this movie almost 20 times during the Christmas season.
There was magic and electricity in the kiss at the Veteran's bridge and in the scene by the pond. Was there any romance between John and Alice?

Tingoat said...

I am a big fan of the background music in this film. Can someone identify the two songs played by the band when Cody and Faith are dancing at the Veteran's Hall, before Paul cuts in? Thanks.

Tingoat said...

I don't know if any new fans follow this blog, but The Christmas Card is now available for sale on YouTube @9.99. Also, I tracked down the background music and can provide more information about it if anyone wants it.

There is a fan club on FaceBook for The Christmas Card movie. Only this week, Joany Kane, writer of the movie/story, and Glorinda Marie, who played Molly the diner waitress, joined the page. Check it out.

Wish they would do a sequel where Cody and Faith get married.
